Why we say no to "Blue Monday"
Here at Handsome Fella we noticed something today, a lot of emails and talk online about blue Monday. Apparently, today is the saddest day of the year and so you need to get spending to make yourself happy again. Obviously.
Now, let's not bullshit. It's not like here at Handsome Fella we're completely immune to taking part in some fake made up day that encourages you to purchase some of our products (Who doesn't love a discount on Black Friday?!). All retail businesses need to advertise and use marketing to spread the word about our products. But we think there's something particularly distasteful about blue Monday.
As much as we would love you to buy what we stock, the idea that simply spending some money on something is the path out of sadness is not something we should encourage. Look, we don't want to be all holier than thou about this. Everyone likes a bit of retail therapy from time to time. But when a lot of the sadness of January often comes from the financial aftermath and pressures of the Christmas season it seems a bit close to the bone to us to heap the spending pressure on again just a couple of weeks later!
So if you are feeling sad or a bit miserable this January and over spending has got something to do with it, please save your pennies for now and we'd love you to come back another time. Instead, why not try and enjoy yourself this month without the pressure of spending. We've certainly enjoyed a few walks around the greener parts of London this January to keep us feeling cheery!
