Why men shouldn't be afraid to take a break or speak out
Far too often, men think they have to not complain. To just take life as it hits them and not worry about self-care or looking after themselves too much.
But men can do a lot of good for themselves and others around them by taking time to look after themselves. Sharing your inner thoughts with those around you who you can trust (whether that be a friend, family member or professional) can do so much good for your mental health.
Most men around today, they grew up in a world that still had a quite a traditional masculine culture. Lad culture can still pervade particularly in Britain. But why should men be afraid of showing their feelings? Men can be strong, secure and successful not despite opening up about their emotions but because of it.
It's ironic that we live in an age when social media allows men to share their lives to the rest of the world in a way that has never been experienced before yet many still shy away from sharing their true feelings. In an age when so much of social media is curated to show our best selves, wouldn't it be healthy if we occasionally share our less than perfect moments too?
Many men share the same sorts of feelings all the time and will do throughout life, yet so often individual men can feel alone as if they are the only ones to feel those feelings. Let's work together in the future to create an atmosphere in real life and online that allows men to be unafraid to communicate honestly more often.
